A Prayer for a Teacher

“Researchers observed elementary school teachers and noted that, on average, they made at least 1,500 decisions a day.”

I was putting words on the Word Wall for my science lesson. A student walked up, needing a nursing pass. My alarm went off for attendance and breakfast count.

We need to grade these brain checks. I thought.

I sat down and logged on to put in my counts.

A student brought in a computer charger right after I spotted my own, “Mrs Griffith, here is…”

I stopped him or her, “I found mine. Take it back, please.”

He or she exits.

Now, my computer can charge.

When was the living nativity? What do I need to bring? Oh my gosh the next three weeks before Christmas are going to be insannneeeee…

Okay… science.

Welcome to a teacher’s brain.

It’s fast. It’s furious. It’s calculations, analyzation and interpretation.

Every minute counts.

Bathroom breaks. Copies. Lunch… you mean bathroom break and copies or lunch?

Parent meetings. PLCs. Class apps. Phone calls. Emails.

What is that student doing?

Is that student licking the bottom of the desk chairs?

“Get that banana out of your ear!”

“Can you please stop making sheep noises!”

(All things I have thought and said.)

Now, Christmas is upon us. Though it is the most wonderful time of year, it is also the most crazy for teachers. (Besides May…)

So, here is a little prayer for teachers I ask you pray:

A Prayer for a Teacher
by Lisa M Griffith

Dear Lord up above
Make those teachers gentle as doves
But also as unwavering as bulls
As that misbehavior magnet pulls

Those precious little boy and girls
All excited with holiday cheer
Will surely push their buttons
And make them loose hair

But at the end of the day
No matter what comes
We know that God gave them a classroom
To love those little ones

So Lord, please be with each teacher
As they go throughout their day
We pray You guide their path
And send angels in their way

Tag a teacher and commit to praying for them throughout December!

You are loved, valued and useful!
