The Day I Chiseled my Underwear Out of the Ice

“What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?” Matthew 18:12

There was a day which I will never forget. The day that will always be etched in my mind.

The day I had to chisel my underwear out of the ice.

It started like any other day. I got up, got ready for work and started descending the stairs of my college dorm, when to my horror, I saw a pink and baby blue blob on the steps…

those look familiar… my underwear! My Victoria Secret, lace, flower underwear- frozen on the steps of the dorm.

The night before I had done laundry. The laundry room is on the bottom floor, my dorm was on the top. So I had to carry the laundry basket to and from the bottom to the top. Somewhere in this journey, my panies had fallen out of the basket and that night it had iced and snowed.

These weren’t just any underwear. I had paid a good price for these and I wanted them back! So I started deciding what I would have to do in order to get these panies back.

Operation rescue Victoria’s Secret that was all over the steps was underway…

I waited… it thawed a little. I went and got a case knife from my kitchen and began to chisel out my underwear. As people walked by I shook my head, “I know… so despicable…” I would say… acting as if  they were not mine.

Now the point to the embarrassing story is to say that just as I left all my other pairs of underwear in my drawer to get this one specific pair, God will go after one specific person that he knows is trapped in the ice or snow.

This may be a stretch as an example, but it’s true.

So many times we think someone is too far for Christ to reach them. They have done too much damage, they have caused too much heartache.

Until our very last breathe we have a choice to serve who we will serve.

Perhaps the person you think is too far for God to reach is you…

You are still breathing. You have a choice.

Nothing is wasted! You pay good money for something you go after it! And God paid with His blood, so He comes after us!

You are loved.
You are valuable.
You are useful.
