Lukewarm Coffee is the Worst

“So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:6

Have you ever had lukewarm coffee?

Earlier this week I brewed my morning coffee, took a shower and got ready for my day. Realizing my Yeti was dirty,  I retrieved my shaker bottle from the cabinets and hastily poured my coffee into the bottle. I knew this looked ridiculous, but it was the only cup I had that had a lid besides my trusted Yeti.

As I embarked on another day of education, I got to school and realized I was in jeans and a school shirt… and no one else was.

It wasn’t Wednesday?

Dang it…

Tuesday hit me in the face like a ton of bricks.

To make matters worse I took a sip of my coffee out of my shaker bottle (that hardly sees smoothies, let’s be honest) and to my disdain it was lukewarm.

Not hot. Not cold. Just lukewarm.

Nasty. Nasty. Nasty….

Immediately, Revelation 3:6 came to my mind and no longer did I think God was being dramatic when He said He would spew us out of his mouth if we were neither hot nor cold. I understood.

In the midst chaos, God taught me a lesson and gave me glimpse into what He must think and feel like when someone says “Yes I am a Christian…” but doesn’t do anything He says to do- which I am guilty of so many times.

When we say “Yeah I love Jesus” but there is no difference in us and the world, or when we say things like “Yeah Jesus is my Savior” but we show no pursuit for the Lord.

For months I have been lukewarm- claiming that I love Jesus but not really spending much time with Him, and frankly doing whatever I want to do at times.

I get this verse now. God would either you be for Him or against Him than claim you love Him and not do a thing to show it.

Anyone would be like that I think.

I know I am.

I would rather someone just say “Yes, I want to get to know you…” than be back and forth all the time. Isn’t that normal?

Once again claims their affection for you you don’t expect perfection, but pursuit is nice. Trying is nice.

That being said, God knows we aren’t perfect and that we won’t always be “on fire” for him.

Sometimes our coffee needs to be warmed.

The only way to do that sometimes is to put over a fire and allow some heat to enter our presence to produce change.

How many people do you hear ordering lukewarm coffee? No one.

God is willing to take your coffee and warm it to produce something that is pleasing and hopeful.

No matter where you are you in your walk know that Jesus loves you and wants to take you deeper.

You are loved.
You are valuable.
You are useful.
